Welcome to School of Philosophy Oxford

A ten week evening course

Practical Philosophy - a course in living

IMPORTANT OMICRON UPDATE: The unfolding situation regarding the pandemic makes future plans uncertain. However our courses will still go ahead next term even if they have to begin on Zoom until it's safe to meet in person again. Practical Philosophy is always relevant but never more so than now.

This course in Practical Philosophy - wisdom relevant to daily life in the modern world - calms the mind and improves relationships. Practice of exercises drawn from philosophical traditions of both East and West allow freedom from petty concerns and help us learn to distinguish what is important from what is not. These exercises, if they become part of everyday life, reconnect us with the present moment that is the essence of mindfulness.

Please see Course Outline for further details.

The full fee of £80 for the term we has been reduced to £60 if you enrol before the first evening, to make this remedy for turbulent times available to many.

If you are an early bird you can save a further £10 before 2nd April.

NOTE: fees paid for courses which are cancelled will be refunded.

Courses take place in the centre of Oxford on Mondays. We have recently also started offering the course at Waterperry Gardens, nr Wheatley, Oxon. The beautiful house, home to philosophy retreats for decades, is seated in one of the top gardens in the country. So, after two hours discussion of thought-provoking topics, you could enjoy lunch in the teashop and then treat yourself to a wander in the glories of creation. There will be a break for tea/ coffee at half time.
